    Our History

Our founder, E. E. Tucker, Jr., entered the insurance business after his return from duty in World War II. Mr. Tucker began with a large, mutual insurance company and quickly progressed through the organization.

In 1958, he moved his family to Charlotte, North Carolina and began the first of what is now the Tucker Group of Companies - Youthguard, Inc. This firm specialized in health insurance coverage for students and quickly grew into one of the largest distributors, underwriters and claims managers for student coverage in the Southeast.

In 1993, Mr. Tucker and his son, Gene, founded Commerce Casualty Insurance Company to provide Workers Compensation Insurance to employee groups. Subsequently, the firm has formed a number of subsidiaries, including Commerce Capital, Commerce E & S and Commerce QuickPay. The Tuckers retain a controlling interest in this operation. In October 2000, Mr. Tucker retired as Chairman of The Tucker Group of Companies. Mr. E. E. “Gene” Tucker, III succeeded his father as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
